The driver who was killed in a crash on busy Dundee Road in Palatine, Illinois, early Wednesday morning has been identified.
Palatine police said just before 4 a.m., officers were called for a single-vehicle crash near Dundee Road and Denise Drive.
A black Nissan Altima had struck a utility pole and a tree near the northeast corner of the intersection, police said. The driver, who police have identified as 19-year-old Jack P. Conway from Schaumburg, died at the scene.
A witness saw the Nissan stopped in the left-turn lane on eastbound Dundee Road and Hicks Road before it crossed the median and ended up heading east in the westbound lanes, police said. However, the witness did not see the crash.
Following the crash, traffic on westbound Dundee Road was reduced to one lane as police investigated. All lanes reopened around 9 a.m.
The crash remained under investigation as of midday Wednesday, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office will perform an autopsy on the man who was killed.
