Eric Swalwell’s political career may be over, but the FBI apparently isn’t finished making house calls.
Early Tuesday morning, the Feds descended on a billionaire donor’s Beverly Hills mansion, executing a search warrant connected to the ongoing criminal investigation into the former California congressman.

Swalwell’s political ambitions unfortunately collapsed earlier this year amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
The property on North Roxbury Drive reportedly belongs to Stephen Cloobeck, the wealthy founder of Diamond Resorts International and a one-time supporter of Swalwell’s failed gubernatorial campaign.
According to Reuters, a senior law enforcement official said investigators were looking for electronic devices and records pertaining to prostitution. The official did not explain what investigators believed they would find or whether any evidence was recovered.
Cloobeck was not home during the search, and no arrests were made. The FBI confirmed the operation but provided few details.
“Early this morning the FBI conducted an operation in the Los Angeles region related to an ongoing criminal investigation. We have no further comment,” FBI spokesperson Lourdes Arocho told The Associated Press.
Arocho also told the Los Angeles Times that agents were executing a search warrant, the court documents remained sealed and no arrests were planned.
The DOJ has not publicly explained the exact allegations being investigated in connection with Tuesday’s search.
However, the Beverly Hills property was more than an occasional “stop” for Swalwell. The former congressman reportedly stayed there while campaigning for California governor and used the mansion for political events. According to the Los Angeles Times, he even recorded a video at the property denying allegations of rape and sexual assault before his resignation.
Cloobeck, 64, contributed more than $23,000 to Swalwell’s congressional campaigns since 2017, according to federal campaign finance records.
But their relationship reportedly deteriorated as accusations against Swalwell became public in April.
“I am no longer associated with a man that takes advantage of women,” Cloobeck told the New York Post at the time, according to the AP. “I support women’s rights.”
Cloobeck has his own unrelated legal problems. He was charged with witness intimidation in May and has pleaded not guilty. There is no public indication that Tuesday’s search was connected to that case.
The raid is yet another development in a federal investigation that has already reached Swalwell’s personal electronics and Washington, D.C., residence.
In August, FBI agents seized electronic devices from Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport and searched his Washington home. He was not arrested.
Swalwell resigned from Congress and abandoned his campaign for California governor in April after several women accused him of sexual misconduct, including sexual assault and sending unsolicited explicit images.
He has denied the allegations and maintained that he committed no criminal wrongdoing. He previously apologized for what he described as “mistakes in judgment” and said he intended to fight the accusations.
As Los Angeles Magazine previously reported, one accuser, Lonna Drewes, publicly alleged in April that Swalwell drugged, raped and choked her during a 2018 encounter at a Southern California hotel.
“He raped me, and he choked me. And while he was choking me, I lost consciousness,” Drewes said during a Beverly Hills news conference. “I thought I died.”
Drewes alleged that Swalwell offered to help advance her software business before the encounter. She said she became incapacitated after drinking wine and later documented the alleged assault in her calendar and during therapy sessions.
Swalwell has denied criminal wrongdoing, and there are currently no criminal charges pending
The former congressman is also facing investigations in other jurisdictions. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office previously confirmed an investigation after a former Swalwell staffer alleged that he raped her at a New York hotel in 2024.
Bragg’s office encouraged “survivors and anyone with knowledge of these allegations to contact our Special Victims Division,” according to the AP.
In California, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has investigated allegations involving Drewes. The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that investigators forwarded the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office last month for a charging decision.
Swalwell, once a prominent Democratic critic of President Donald Trump, represented an East Bay congressional district for more than a decade and served on the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees.
He was considered a leading contender in the California governor’s race before the allegations ended his campaign and congressional career.
The search warrant remains sealed for now, and investigators have not shared what was seized, and no charges against Swalwell have been announced in connection with the federal investigation.
